DFAE – Présence Suisse
House of Switzerland redesign
More than ten years after the original site was built, Presence Switzerland has once again placed its trust in us to reimagine House of Switzerland. A secure, robust and Open Source event platform, designed and developed in Switzerland.

A lasting collaboration
Our first collaboration with Presence Switzerland goes back more than ten years. At the time, we designed a platform that brought together events, news and Swiss Stories telling Switzerland's story from different angles.
Since then, Presence Switzerland's ecosystem has evolved. Timeless content and the Swiss Stories are gradually moving over to the FDFA's platforms. This allows House of Switzerland to refocus on its core purpose: showcasing Swiss events abroad and relaying its activities.
This new version builds on our knowledge of the project, as well as on a relationship of trust built over the years.

The events
House of Switzerland is the showcase for Switzerland's presence at major international gatherings. Each event brings together a wealth of information: location, dates, programme, partners and on-site activities.
The new platform brings together past, ongoing and upcoming events. Each event has its own space and can group several activities.
For larger-scale projects, temporary event websites can also be created. They offer greater editorial and visual freedom, while remaining connected to the House of Switzerland ecosystem.

Informing the audiences who talk about Switzerland
The site also addresses media, partners and other people likely to relay Presence Switzerland's activities.
The Headlines section brings together information published by the department, along with a selection of articles from media outlets and other platforms. This press review makes it possible to follow the events and topics that shape Switzerland's image abroad.
An About Switzerland section is kept. It gives access to more general, timeless information about the country, without duplicating content now available on the FDFA's platforms.

Wireframes to frame the project
The project started from a concrete working basis: the platform's mobile wireframes had been fully prepared ahead of the kick-off.
This approach allowed us to immediately discuss content organisation, user journeys and features. Our discussions were grounded in actual screens rather than abstract intentions.
Finding the right visual language
House of Switzerland reveals a new face, reconnecting with the legacy of Swiss design. Rigour, precision, minimalism, rhythm.
Visual design therefore played a major role in the project. The "100 images workshop" allowed us to explore different representations of Switzerland and identify a shared direction.
This work shaped the site's graphic universe.

A platform designed for different editorial rhythms
Not all House of Switzerland content has the same lifespan. An activity can be announced, updated and archived within a few weeks, while an event remains a reference point for several years.
We designed an editorial architecture capable of handling these different rhythms. The relationships between events, activities and news allow content to circulate without being duplicated.
Teams can therefore publish information quickly, link it to the right event and have it appear in the relevant places across the platform.
Drupal, for a robust platform
The site is built with Drupal, an Open Source CMS particularly well suited to institutional, multilingual, content-rich platforms.
Its structured content management meets House of Switzerland's needs well. Events, activities and news can be managed separately, then linked and displayed in different contexts.
Drupal also provides a durable, scalable foundation. It allows a tailor-made solution to be built without depending on proprietary software or licence fees.

Building for what's next
More than ten years after the first version, House of Switzerland continues to evolve alongside Presence Switzerland's activities.
This new platform preserves what made the project strong, while refocusing its content and renewing its visual expression. It gives Presence Switzerland a solid editorial tool to present its events, share its news and showcase Switzerland abroad.
