Complete redesign of the msf.ch site. Needs analysis, research, architecture, visual design, and development. We have been continuously maintaining and improving the Médecins Sans Frontières site ever since.
From a technical standpoint, the platform had been running on a Typo3 instance, a CMS that had become difficult to maintain due to the large volume of content and insufficient content type orientation for MSF's needs. The organization aims to organize and modify its website as it sees fit, thereby achieving its three strategic objectives: visibility, recruitment, and fundraising.
Analysis and Study
MSF has long attracted various audiences to its site:
An immediate observation: the visual content is of high quality and deserves to be showcased throughout the platform. The photos and videos taken in the field are the best testimonies of MSF's actions. To prioritize the project's developments, we conducted a User Story Mapping workshop. This method helps us to discuss the project and needs in-depth with MSF.
We carried out several user tests to study the behavior of visitors on humanitarian organization websites. The results of this research were used in the logic of content arrangement and navigation flow. This approach to measuring user experience, ensuring the site's usability, is at the core of our methodology.
We closely collaborated with the MSF teams to develop the new design of the site. The goal was to refresh the organization's image, emphasize media (photos and videos), and present all these elements in modular pages.
To optimize collaboration, we created the basics of the web charter. This was then extended and adapted to the different pages by Ivona Karajlovic, who has been working as a consultant with MSF for several years.
This collaboration allowed us to adapt our methods and improve our communication skills.
A personalized artistic direction
Strong and tailored choices in typography, colors, and component creation.
Rich Content in a Robust System
MSF required the transition to Drupal 8 in its specifications: their clear desire to have control over as much as possible and the wide variety of content makes this choice optimal. This Open Source CMS offers great manageability and flexibility, perfectly aligning with the presented needs. We implemented a modular content system so that any page can be modified as desired without undermining the design work 😉
Drupal also allows for easy data migration from another CMS. With numerous articles not warranting a complete rewrite, they could be transferred to the new infrastructure.
An Editorial Experience in Continuous Improvement
Drupal offers very flexible administration, enabling all modifications within the admin panel to facilitate the editors' work. We continuously work to improve this experience based on MSF's feedback.
A True Partnership
The best successes of our agency are the projects where we have created a partnership. The client-service provider relationship fades and gives way to the pursuit of a common goal. To establish such conditions, it is necessary to get to know each other (sharing meals, having coffees). Transparent communication is important. Trust is established, allowing us to form this team. For this project, we collaborate with people who share our values and have great web expertise.
We thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with MSF, an organization that knows what it wants from its site and for whom we are grateful for the trust placed in us.
Once the graphic foundations were laid, we "married" them with the overall message (campaign texts). This results in a strong combination of various print and digital communication media.
